McCook County, SD U.S. Census TIGER/Line map
McCook County, in southeastern South Dakota
, adjoins the two heavily Mennonite populated counties of Turner and Hutchinson
. The one Mennonite church (General Conference Mennonite
) in the county was located in Bridgewater. This town with population of less than 1,000 in 1956 was an important trading center for Mennonites and had a number of business establishments operated by them. The total Mennonite population of the county was approximately 300 in 1956, of whom less than 100 lived in Bridgewater.
